The Rebel is told from several different points of view, which I always prefer as I love that you can get a much better feel for the characters DI Laura Jefferson needs to do everything she can to take down one of the most wanted criminals in the country Roy Slack not only for her job but this time her family is also in danger.
This story grips you right from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat, with an unexpected twist at the end.
Another must read from a great author The Rebel Gripping Murder and Revenge ThrillerOnce again Jaime Raven has written a thriller that is absorbing, gripping and breath taking This time we have a kick ass female DI trying to track down and stop a kick ass female assassin Like it says on the cover, how far would you go to protect your family The best way to find out is to read this excellent thriller.
DI Laura Jefferson from Scotland Yard s organised task force has worked hard to get to this elite taskforce She loves nothingthan taking down the Mr Big of crime, especially as they were a blight on London and the residents of the capital They have just seen one of those criminals sentenced and sent down at the Old Bailey, and now they have a new man in their sights.
Roy Slack knows that he is now the criminal that will come sharply into the focus of the task force at Scotland Yard But before they get him he has decided he is going to have some fun, and at the same time also gain revenge, which has been long overdue To assist him he hires from a Mexican cartel an assassin whose nickname is The Slayer She has earnt that name and she is on the way to London to raise the stakes.
With colleagues and family members being possible targets Laura knows she and her team are up against it Will they get any breaks so they can track The Slayer down and will they be able to link her to Roy Slack Once thing is clear, they are going to have to dig deep and keep going even when the pressure is on Will Laura be able to keep a level head when everyone around her are losing theirs, is the question.
With a terrific pace throughout the book, you want to know what will happen next, will The Slayer keep killing, will Laura ever find the evidence The only way to find out is to carry on reading Time taken to read 1.

My ReviewLondon s cops are coming down hard on the criminal underworld, one bad guy organisation at a time As the police turn up the heat, the bad guys decide to fight back, by any means necessary Told from the point of view of three of our main characters, Laura detective inspector , Rosa skilled and ruthless assassin and Slack notorious crime boss we get a diverse look at what is going down through their points of view No one is safe, anyone could be next and the police are facing their biggest threat ever.
I have read Raven once or twice before, I like gritty crime so have enjoyed their work, this book though, page turner When you see the point of view from the good guy, the bad guy and the hired gun it gives you food for thought for all the points of view from one situation but from different angels A hired assassin is always chilling because they do what they do for the pay off, this time, as well as the motive, we get to see the human side of this monster Laura has her own personal issues which are mostly background as the main focus of the book is the investigation and murders, however there is enough to give you a feel for who she is as a character The crime boss, his motives are clear from the get go but a good author gives you some surprises along the way, Raven does this with The Rebel.
Drawn in pretty much from the opening chapter the pace is consistent throughout and had life not gotten in the way I could have read this is just about one sitting As with most crime fiction we have murder, mayhem, family, relationships, violence and there is a wee bit of sexual content so just an fyi I will be checking out Raven s back catalogue and wonder if we will seewith DI Laura Jefferson, 4 5 for me this time A great read with lots of twists and turns The police are under attack from one of the biggest criminals in London He has paid an assassin to start taking them out and has a police mole giving him all the private information on their colleagues to help him do this Family and loved ones are also drawn into this scary situation They know what he s doing but how are they going to prove it.
I always know that I am going to get a brilliant thriller from this author She writes in the style of Martina Cole and is just as good Roy Slack is a gangster who is dying He has no family left and blames their death on the police He hires a hit man from Mexico to kill police and their families on DI Laura Jefferson s team There is plenty of action to follow read on Not badI do love this author and this book didn t disappoint it was very good Not as good as her other s but still worth reading.
Another brilliant book by Jaime Raven.
I absolutely loved the character of Detective Inspector Laura Jefferson She is a young, ambitious, hard working, strong, feisty and courageous young woman She lives with her partner Aidan and has done for a few years now DI Jefferson is dedicated to her work and fortunately for her, Aidan is very understanding of her job and the unsocial hours that she needs to keep Jefferson is determined and she is a bit like a dog with a bone in the sense that once she gets her teeth into a case, she isn t easily shaken off and if something doesn t sit right with her, she continues to investigate things further until she has satisfied her own curiosity I admired DI Jefferson s bravery too when somebody started murdering her colleagues from the organised crime task force based at Scotland Yard or their loved ones Not only does she continue to work the case and try to find new angles, she doesn t flee the area to save herself To be honest, if I knew that somebody was killing off my colleagues and was likely to come after me, I would be on the first aeroplane of the country Mind you, I am just a big wimp Anyway, I digress so back to the review I do go As for the villains of the underworld, well let s just say that they scared me a lot and my skin crawl Who else is murdered before the killer is stopped in their tracks Will DI Jefferson manage to work out who the killer is before it is too late Can Roy Slack be caught and his empire broken up Well for the answers to those questions and , you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out because I am not going to tell you.
The writing style is such that you can t fail to be drawn into the story from the beginning The book begins in a memorable way and the story hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout The writing is so convincing that I began to feel rather jumpy and under threat If I heard a noise whilst reading the book then I jumped out of my skin I even went round checking that all the window locks were locked and doors were locked to make sure that nobody could get in I know that The Rebel is a work of fiction but I was so into the story and the writing was so realistic that the book seemed to come alive and I began living the story Reading The Rebel became so addictive that I found that I just couldn t put the book down It wasn t that the book was glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it came everywhere with me I just had to get my next fix of onepage, onechapter and so on and so forth I was so into the book that I didn t notice how quickly the page numbers and the time were flying by I genuinely picked up this book at the right time for me because I was feeling a bit down and I needed a distraction and this book provided the required distraction andReading The Rebel was a bit like a very scary rollercoaster ride with lots of twists, turns and stomach churning moments There were also car crash moments where you could see something happening in front of your eyes but there wasn t a darn thing that you could do about it I frequently almost had to read this book through my fingers because I genuinely feared what was going to happen next but I knew that if I wanted to know how the story ended, then I had to read on This book certainly gives the reader a taste of what the criminal underworld is like and it s far too brutal a world for this softy, so I will just stick to reading about it.
In short, I absolutely LOVED this sometimes brutal tale of how far one woman will go to get her vengeance when her nearest and dearest are hurt Jaime s previous two crime books were good but in my opinion The Rebel is the best of the bunch so far Jaime s books just keep getting better and better I would definitely recommend his books to other readers and particularly to those fans of Kimberly Chambers, Mandasue Heller and Jessie Keane I can t wait to see what Jaime comes up with next Here s hoping that I don t have too long a wait The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 5 out of 5.
